SWAPATH TRUST'S PROJECTS: SCHOOL RETENTION PROGRAMME
There are currently 53 students in this programme. These children are provided with motivational, tutorial and extra-curricular support, and medical and financial support is offered to those who require it.
The aim is that children should not drop out of school until at least the 10th grade. This is achieved by having Education Support Centres (ESCs) in community spaces in/near slums or low-income housing colonies. Apart from the tutorial support, the ESCs also offer children space to study with their peer group and an opportunity to express themselves.
Swapath plans to rethink and redesign the SRP. Currently, there are only 53 students attending the Education Support Centres in Surat. Swapath is considering hiring better facilitators to encourage children to learn in more creative ways than those offered by the schools. A pilot of such a centre is being conducted in Dangs.

GETTING CREATIVE:
Like most children, these children at the ESCs are creative. They express themselves through paper craft, poems and drawing. Here is some of the artwork created by children in years III and IV.
